Every movement starts with a story

A necessity to look at SRHR through a wider lens.

Mine began with a loss that should never have happened. At just 46 years old, my mother passed away from complications related to fibroids, a manageable condition that, in a just world, should never have been a death sentence. That loss was followed by the tragic death of a childhood friend due to an unsafe abortion. Together, these experiences left a trauma that never truly fades. They were not simply personal tragedies; they were systemic failures that exposed the devastating consequences of unequal access to healthcare. These realizations transformed my grief into purpose. As I learned more about the systemic realities women and girls face, I realized that these barriers become even more severe during humanitarian crises and climate-related emergencies. I experienced this harsh reality firsthand during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, where already fragile health systems were completely disrupted, and the most vulnerable were left behind. This lived experience further strengthened my lifelong commitment to advocating for equitable sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, especially when emergencies strike.
